SPOKEN PHRASES IN ENGLISH
Here’s something very important you would have awaited for…….in your English learning process…..
I have come up with some very simple, common, elegant phrases you could use in your day-to day life,…….for “WELCOMING YOUR GUESTS, FRIENDS, NEIGHBOURS, WELL WISHERS, OFFICIAL PEOPLE OR ANYBODY FOR THAT SAKE”………..
Let’s go about it dear ones,….
The foremost phrase I am gonna introduce to you is
1. To welcome someone when they enter or get into your house that is once they open your door and come in say……
“Hi Al,Come on in”
If it is your very close one or friend you could even add
“Hi Al,Come on in.You are looking great”
2. To ask them to sit down or settle down say……
“Have a seat”
Again if that’s your bestie or good friend you could add
“Have a seat and make yourself at home”
That sounds cool no….
This makes them feel comfortable……
Well, if that is your relative or a known family friend who knows and gets along well with your family too then add the phrase
“I’ll tell the kids that you have arrived”
In case if it is an official friend don’t say this……
3. Next the usual tendency towards a guest is to ask what you shall bring for them to drink or eat….
“What can I get you to drink/eat”
If you have already prepared some coffee or tea or any beverage for the guest you could use……
“Do you fancy some coffee?”
or even it could be….
“Do you love to have some coffee?”
That sounds great,I hope you would love to use it……
[Usually, the reply for this is “Yes, I’d love some”…in case if you become the guest to somebody you could use this]
If your guest obliges to have it or agrees to have it….he would reply
“Yes, I’d love some”
if the guest is new to you or isn’t a well-known person to you he might refuse to have it, maybe cordially……then they would say…..
“No, I’m alright. Thanks” or “No, That’s ok”
or
“No, I have just had some. Thank you.”
👉“I’m good. Thanks.” would be very gentle….. that way
4. When you serve them coffee or once you bring your dish you need to say….
“Here you go/Here you are”
[Avoid this too for official people, be more polite…..use more of please…..Sir/Ma’am]
5. If you serve some biscuits or snacks along with the coffee or tea or beverage say….
“Please try it”
“Please do take one”
“Help yourself to the biscuits”
6. Furthermore if you want to just have a casual talk about their trip or shopping or other activities they tell to you, you could say……
“Did you have a nice trip?”
“How was your flight?”-in case they came by a flight……
“How was your journey?”
or maybe even…
“Had a nice shopping” or”Had fun shopping”
7. If you want to tell them that your brother or sister enquired about them say……
“Misha conveyed her regards”
or
“Misha sent her regards”
8. If you want to extend the meeting or continue the engagement further that is,…. if they are able to spend some more time with you or you want to spend more time with them or in case if you’re ready with a lunch or dinner you could say…..
“Would you like to join us for lunch/dinner”
TIP: In case you want to get to speak with Native English speakers try to pick up their accent and style….body language….
9. When they are about to leave
“Had a lovely time”
or
“Had a wonderful time”
or
“Had an amazing time”
10. When they actually leave you could either say
“Catch you soon”
or
“Wish to meet you sometime again”
